Tailgate season is here! Are you looking for a tasty treat that’s simple and savory? This Texas Toast Sloppy Joe recipe is simply out of this world, with the toast making the perfect vehicle for the sloppy joes, soaking up all the flavorful sauce and making every bite delicious. And the addition of gooey melted cheese to this classic family favorite might just be the most brilliant upgrade ever. Here’s what you’ll need:

For The Sloppy Joe Mixture
* 1 pound of ground beef
* 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
* ½ cup of yellow onion, finely chopped
* 8-ounce can of tomato sauce
* ½ cup of ketchup
* 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
* 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
* 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard
* 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
* ½ teaspoon of garlic powder
* ½ teaspoon of onion powder
* ½ teaspoon of salt
* ¼ teaspoon of black pepper
For Serving:
* 13.5-ounce box (8 slices) of Five Cheese Texas Toast
* 8-ounce block of mozzarella cheese, shredded (Sargento Creamery Mozzarella)

GROUND BEEF TIP: I used standard ground beef for this recipe. You can use ground sirloin, lean or extra lean ground beef. You will need to note that if you use a leaner choice of ground meat, you may need to add a tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet to brown your leaner ground meats.

Making these tasty sloppy Joes is just like making a traditional version. The only difference is that you will serve your meat mixture on cheesy slices of bread and topped with even more melty cheese. Brown you beef then add all your ingredients, bake the toast while you’re prepping the sloppy joe mixture. Add your sloppy joe mixture to the baked toast, sprinkle cheese and bake for an additional 3-4 minutes to melt the cheese and enjoy!
