I know late September is technically, technically, the first of fall, but here in Kentucky we tend to take our sweet time with things, and fall is no different! So honestly I am just recently really feeling the true transition into the fall season and kissing the sweet (and sweltering) summer farewell. I admit I am soooo looking forward to savoring all the flavors that fall has in store! One of my most favorites (outside the obvious pumpkin spice) is a crispy, crumbly, classic I’ve been craving…
Maybe you guessed this brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg miracle mix that’s so deeply dear to my heart (and my tastebuds). Toss in a tart twist and you’ve got it – Apple Crisp! Y’all, my mouth is watering just typing this out…
Yes, I’m going to give you my go-to recipe! But perhaps even more importantly, I’m about to share an awesome autumn tip with you today that I hope will completely flip your fall…
I actually prefer to put together my favorite fall apple crisp on the grill.
Yes. You read that correctly.
Obviously, I adore grillin’ up burgers and hot dogs and all the summer staples, but ladies – don’t you dare let a day on a calendar determine how you do dinner! Why limit ourselves when a world of options (and that authentic smokey flavor) await in our outdoor patio paradise?
Alright ladies, if your grill has seen better days, or you don’t have a grill but your interest is sparked – you are in absolute luck. The Home Depot carries a broad selection of top brands like Weber. PLUS, if you purchase a grill online, they will deliver it FOR FREE. No having to ask your sister’s roommate’s boss’ uncle to borrow their truck to go pick it up. No having to find time to leisurely swing by the store between Zoom meetings and piano lessons and vet visits and grocery pick up.
And the best part – No digging dollar bills out of your purse for delivery. Because it’s FREE.
The Sprinkles on the cake? If you purchase a grill $399 and over in-store, you qualify for free assembly and delivery. It just doesn’t get much better than that, girls!
Not quite sure which grill to get? I know! It’s a tough call with sooo many quality options! Here’s the one I would recommend: A Weber Spirit. The Spirit grills are built to last and designed to grill amazing tasting food. Specifically, the Spirit E-315 3-burner liquid propane gas grill is my go-to! This beauty has 3 stainless steel burners that deliver even heat and durability. Its porcelain-enameled cooking grates allow your food to sear to perfection without sticking and making a fuss. Finally, just what every woman wants – the Weber grease management system makes clean-up a snap by funneling the grease away from the burners and into an easily accessible drip tray for simple disposal.
You already know we can make an art of creatively coming together and celebrating, even under the current circumstances. So go ahead and get your best girl group together for a lil grilled sweet potato party on the patio. Fire up the Weber and serve grilled flatbread sammies for the family. Gather up the goods and grill the best Apple Crisp the fall season has ever seen!
Grilled Apple Crisp
10 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples (about 8 medium)
1 cup old-fashioned oats
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
Vanilla ice cream, optional
Place the apple slices on a double thickness of heavy-duty foil (about 24×12 in.). In a small bowl, combine the oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves; cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over apples.
Fold foil around apple mixture and seal tightly. Grill, covered, over medium heat for 20-25 minutes or until apples are tender. Open foil carefully to allow steam to escape. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.
